Who and what is a GCM?
Q: What is a Geriatric Care Manager? How do I find a GCM? Do I really need a GCM?

GCM Qualifications
Q: Are GCMs licensed professionals?
A: Many Geriatric Care Managers are licensed in their individual specialties as required by state laws, i.e. nursing, social work, psychology, etc. NAPGCM's members are committed to rigorous Standards of Practice and a Pledge of Ethics. They meet high standards set for each membership category, through verified formal education, work experience, and related industry certifications. Consumers can depend on NAPGCM members to represent excellence in elder care.
Q: Why certification?
A: Certification ensures a level of professional quality.
Q: What are the specific NAPGCM-approved certifications?
A: Currently there are four NAPGCM-approved certifications: Care Manager Certified (CMC), offered by the National Academy of Certified Care Managers (NACCM); Certified Case Manager (CCM), offered by the Commission for Case Manager Certification (CCMC), and Certified Social Worker Case Manager (C-SWCM) and Certified Advanced Social Worker in Case Management (C-ASWCM), offered by the National Association of Social Workers.
Q: Does a Certificate in Geriatric Care Management from an educational institution fulfill the NAPGCM requirement to be certified?
A: No, Certificates in Geriatric Care Management are not uniform in their requirements, nor do they require the same levels of education and work experience that are required by the four NAPGCM-approved certifications.
Continuing Education
Q: Does NAPGCM offer Continuing Education opportunities?
A: Yes, NAPGCM offers CEUs credits at their annual spring conference, in pre-sessions and the NACCM CMC Review Course intensive. In 2010 NAPGCM begins a series of Webinars that will also provide CEUs.
Q: What types of CEUs are available?
A: NAPGCM applies for credit in Social Work, Nursing, Care Management, Case Management, California MFT, and National Guardianship.

A: Submit your application and supporting documents. Click here for application.
Q: Can I join a chapter at the same time?
A: You will automatically be assigned a chapter membership according to your business location when you join NAPGCM. If you would like to join a different chapter, or join additional chapters, you may do so by making a request in writing to NAPGCM.
Q: Where do I learn more about my chapter and whom do I contact?
A: Chapter information is available on the NAPGCM Web site. www.caremanager.org, You will find each Chapter Presidents contact information and the links to each chapter’s website.

Q: What educational programs does NAPGCM offer and when are they scheduled?
A: NAPGCM hosts one annual conference each spring, and an Advanced Practice Retreat each Fall. Starting in 201, NAPGCM will offer educational webinars. Please see the Events Calendar for listings.
Q: Who can attend the annual conference? The Advanced Practice Retreat?
A: The Annual Conference is open to anyone interested in learning more about professional geriatric care management. The Advanced Practice Retreat is open to Certified NAPGCM members who have a minimum of five (5) years as a geriatric care management business owner or substantial management experience.

Proposals should be geared to the following areas: Clinical, Business, Ethics/Legal.
